TANTRA FAQ
What is Tantra?
Tantra is an ancient, erotic, mystical study that is body-centric, theologically yogic, and also alchemic (mixing of energies) which enlivens your curiosity towards the inner marriage of the masculine and feminine. Tantra is a study that is in the moment; it's never the same for each person which is why it's difficult to define. Most people think Tantra is sex. Tantra does intersect with sexuality but only as one of the aspects of embodiment. As you lean into your choices that make you you, Tantra offers ways to reconcile your questions and concerns while suggesting how to manage your unfolding awareness. Tantra is a great reminder of how to acknowledge all parts of you while being in relationship with all things.
Why should I know about Tantra?
Tantra is happening all around us right now. When things seem to be going well, it's because there is a synergy of the masculine and feminine energies, a "flow". However, sometimes something doesn't seem right, or there is a feeling of discord. Tantra helps us break down situations so that we can look at what may need to be adjusted, a course correction. With the awareness that Tantra brings, both personal and professional relationships can not only flourish, but grow in open, honest, and expansive ways.
Can Tantra be done with clothes on, or do you have to be naked?
You do not have to be naked to practice Tantra because it is an energetic connection practice. Being naked does help to make sure all your body's information is acknowledged and engaged.
I'm straight / heterosexual. Why should I try Tantra?
All sorts of people practice Tantra (straight, gay, bisexual, trans, curious, married, single, younger, older, skinny, larger, local, visitors). Since the goal of Tantra is the inner marriage of the masculine and the feminine, it helps to know where you stand in each of those energies within yourself and outside of yourself. Tantra brings us out of stereotypes where gender tends to be framed with labels and duties into compassionate responses of all gender expressions. Once we see through Tantra's filter that sexuality is not about parts, preferences, activity or results, we can begin to listen, include, and welcome new friends, adventures, and ways of being into our lives
Do I sign-up for a Tantra Basics private lesson or just go into Tantra Practice?
If you're new to Tantra, it's recommended that you take a Tantra Basics private lesson first to benefit from learning what is Tantra, how it intersects with you, and why you are doing what you doing in Tantra exchanges. Sometimes people have tried Tantra Practice first, but then they take a Tantra Basics private lesson because maybe the group experience was too much, or they wanted to check-in about something that came up during the group event. Practicing Tantra in a larger group can be overwhelming with other people serving as both inspiration and distraction. It helps to have an essential understanding of Tantra in knowledge and application before trying Tantra Practice. For couples, a Tantra Basics private lesson would be initially helpful before going into any group setting to make sure each partner is clear with their intentions and boundaries.
How do I prepare for Tantra Basics or Tantra Practice?
Be curious. Ask yourself why you are interested learning about Tantra, or how you want to advance your practice. Where do you feel the call to Tantra in your body? Is sensuality a force of good in your life? Is pleasure your ally in your choices? What do you want to explore through your body? The more details you can provide to yourself first, the quicker the results happen when it's time to interact and share with others.
